Social media are powerful, but sending an email to subscribers that want to get your updates can be even more powerful. Win-win! Many (online) business owners think that they don’t need a mailing list, but it’s not totally true. They don’t exploit the full potential of emails. These are my top 3 reasons why every business or blog should have and use mailing list:
Stay in touch with your potential customers, readers
Adding value and building trust with readers or potential customers is one of the most important things. Email subscribers are more likely to be your next loyal customers (e. g. product buyers, service consumers, reader…), so stay in touch with them!
Social media changes and aside from your website, emails is the only thing you have control over
Social media comes and go, but your mailing list stays (if your subscribers like what they get, obviously). So it’s better to invest in something that’s not going away. Social media can be a great tool to reach your audiences, but I suggest giving some attention to your emails as well.
More website traffic
More readers, customers, clients will see your content. It helps to drive traffic to your website.
Being a spammer is not the way to go, but there are many ways that your subscribers will enjoy your emails. These are just some of ideas for emails that you can send:
- Newsletter
- New arrival of product
- Special sales notifications
- Happy Holiday or Happy Birthday emails
- Trick and tips (just for your subscribers)
- Special news (about you, important changes…)
- Feedback (short survey)
- About you, your story

Hi Maja.
Nice post.
It’s true that an email list should be the ultimate goal when running any business.
It’s not enough, though, to just have an email list. Like you said, we need to keep in touch and build a relationship with our subscribers as it’s that which makes the list valuable.
The main thing to remember is to always give value when emailing the list.
Thanks for sharing this.
Have a great week……Chris

I agree! Everyone needs to have an email mailing list. It is really important to have large lists and nurture them. When you are ready to take it to the next level, they will be ready to take it with you.

This is one more great reason to have a mailing list! Thanks!

Thanks for sharing! Any tips for a great newsletter?

Maybe series of short tips like: mommy to mommy tips, DIY project, how to have fun with your Kids, how to take the break for yourself… can be a great idea for your newsletter. Hope this helps! 🙂
